Blog / Fighting bad smells with new fragrance technologies

We encounter hundreds of smells on an average day, some more appealing than others. Malodours, however, are more than simply unpleasant smells; they are bad smells that affect our quality of life. Some of these smells come from our environment–mildew, smoke, cooking smells, pollution. Other malodours such as sweat and hair grease are part of being human. Natural though they are, we seek to minimise them to improve our enjoyment of life and our well-being—and those of the people around us.

Why masking malodours is ineffective?

Each malodour has a complex biochemistry behind it. Understanding it is essential for finding the right solution. For instance, clean sweat is virtually odourless, but as it is broken down by bacteria present in the apocrine glands, it begins to smell unpleasant.

The traditional way to address malodours is masking—using another smell to obscure the offending one. However, the components of malodours are notoriously persistent and powerful. As a result, traditional masking rarely gives the best results.

New fragrance technologies to solve malodour problems

The newest fragrance technologies are much more effective, because they are based on a deep understanding of the chemistry of a specific malodour. These state-of-the-art technologies address malodours in three stages: prevention, elimination and modification.

1.    Prevention means finding a solution that addresses the underlying cause of an odour such as the presence of microbes or bacteria.

2.    Elimination means targeting the malodorous molecules with specific ingredients.

3.    Modification includes sophisticated olfactive solutions that turn a bad smell into an acceptable or even attractive one.

The most common malodour problems we solve

  • Preventing and removing the smell of sweat in body care
  • Removing the smell of cigarette smoke lingering on hair, clothes, and in the air
  • Eliminating or neutralising kitchen odours (onion, garlic, oil, fish ect.)
  • Eliminating or neutralising bathroom smells
  • Eliminating or neutralising pet odours
  • Fighting unwanted odours while delivering added freshness

We have proprietary technologies to address all of these issues and more.
